Scholarship Description:

  • Founded in 1990 the Collegiate Inventors Competition can act as reward money and can be added on to a scholarship you’ve won, or are anticipating but will win eventually. The Collegiate Inventors Competition® (CIC), a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame®, is a national competition that recognizes and rewards innovations, discoveries and research by college and university students and their faculty advisers. The competition encourages students who actively pursue an invention. Students frequently come from science, engineering, mathematics, and technology studies, but creative invention can emerge from any course of study.

Eligibility & Requirements to win this cash prize

  • Students who are currently enrolled full-time and will graduate in May or June 2021 are eligible.
  • Full-time or part-time students enrolled in a U.S. college or university are eligible to enter.
  • Individuals who are non-U.S. citizens can apply as long as they are enrolled in a U.S. institution/high school. And the student meets all of the criteria associated with the eligibility key points.
  • In the case of a team, all team members must be enrolled as full-time or part-time students in a U.S. college or university between June 2020 and June 2021.
  • If the student is a researcher or a post-doctorate student, they can not enter this competition.
  • Only 4 students can make up each team. If there are 5 students in a team, one student will be asked to move to a different group.
  • If the team consists of undergraduate or graduate students, the judges will make Designations may be reassigned at the discretion of the judges.
  • There is a public disclosure each student should read, this is about if an invention has a patent and etc.
  • There is a rigorous judging process.

A major requirement list is this:

  • The application consists of General student information, an essay including a brief description or abstract of the invention, information on the faculty adviser (if applicable), a letter of recommendation from the faculty adviser or a professional reference, a literature/patent search, and summary, and any relevant supporting or supplemental materials you wish to submit (examples: charts, graphs, videos, articles, samples, etc.). In addition, entrants must fulfill the student status requirements. The entry must be written in English.

Cash Reward

  • A total of $100,000 is split between the top 3 winning students.

  • Two months prior to the final judging round students will be telephoned, other entrants will be notified by email later that month. Finalists will be featured on the Collegiate Inventors Competition website. Winners are announced during the competition after the final judging round concludes. The top prize winners will be featured on the Collegiate Inventors Competition website.
