Essay No. 52:
Render Unto Caesar That Which Is Caesar’s And Unto God Which Is God’s: The maxim shows the crux of human wisdom to lead a life based on the dispensation of justice. A man should recognize the rights of his fellow beings. If a house or a piece of land belongs to A and is presently in occupation of B, then the letter should vacate it on demand and return it to A. if someone has kept some money with you, the same should be returned to him. One should refrain from being dishonest to anyone. The maxim educates readers to act honestly insofar as human rights are concerned.
Man has different roles to play in society. In the capacity of a father, he should recognize the responsibilities that he owes to his children. He should give love and attention to his children. If his means permit, he should give the best possible education to his children. He should leave no stone unturned in bringing up his children nicely in the life. he should try to ornament his children with education apart from inculcating in them morals to make them useful and abiding citizens. As a son, he should serve his parents with a sense of devotion. He should be sensitive to their feelings, particularly in the old age.
As a husband, he must meet the genuine demands of his wife. He must give due consideration to the rights of his wife. He must develop a perfect understanding with his wife to pass a frictionless life. in short, a man should recognize the rights of others. He must return things to others if they belong to them. If a man acts on the maxim, he can lead a happy life. it would create harmony in society. Islam gives great importance to ‘Haqooq-ul-Abad’. Rights of people must be recognized and protected. Hence a society founded on this idea can prove a blessing in disguise.

The other part of the maxim relates to the obligations of man that he owes to Allah. Believers are enjoined upon to follow the path of righteousness as ordained by Allah. Certain Quranic recipes are recommended to be followed in letter and spirit to earn the pleasure of Allah. The objective is to create a day, and earn an honest living for bringing up their siblings, and give zakat as per the command of Allah, they would have the blessings of life. if believers do not exploit the weaknesses of their fellow beings to their advantage, they would be laying foundations of a just society, free of tyranny and exploitation.
By earning the pleasure of Allah, they would indirectly by promoting harmony in society to make life worth living. Allah is the forgiver and can forgive human lapses, but he would not forgive lapses pertaining to the usurpation of human rights. Islam thus presents a balanced view of life based on the fulfilment of ‘Haqooq Ullah’ and ‘Haqooq-ul-Abad’. Both run parallel to each other. However, the latter takes precedence over the former, since the idea is to create a society free of vice. So that man could live to his full stature to develop his internal self for the salvation of his soul and to make the best use of the bounties of Allah for his material betterment and advancement. Islam presents a harmonious view of life.
If the maxim were acted upon, in its spirit it can go a long way to create harmony in the human society. Many of the conflicts can end both at the domestic and international levels. Man must pay heed to the maxim to seek a balanced pattern of living.
