Essay No. 1:
I agree with the statement The Vacuum Of Values Which We Are Experiencing Today Has Come About Because Those Who Should Have Protected The Values Have Surrendered Without A Struggle that the people of the older generation should have struggled hard to preserve the ideological values for which Pakistan was demanded. Instead of struggling to practice and preserve those values, they surrendered to the new pragmatic economic values.
Pakistan was achieved to establish social, economic justice. Pakistan was to be made in egalitarian society, where Islamic Adl would be dispensed to the people. Instead, growth values as a result of the pursuit of economic development were entrenched in society. The moral, ideological values were sacrificed at the altar of growth values.
Just after attaining independence, corruption soon took hold of society. The Rehabilitation Department accepted fake claims of the Muslims coming from across the Indian border and it gave stimulus to the forces of bribery and other social vices. The old generation should have fought valiantly against the deluge of corruption but it gave in silently. It did not create a bulwark against corruption. The then Muslim League government silently acquiesced in what was happening in the newly-born country. The Muslim League fell prey to internecine intrigues and that gave birth to political, economic scramble. Fight among politicians paved the way for the derailment of the civil rule.

Later on, Pakistan underwent many martial laws, which weakened basic institutions in all fields. The apex court justified military rule on grounds of the ‘doctrine of necessity’, which has been invoked each time in the event of the imposition of military rule. Military rule’s negative impact is that it erodes institutions in a society which alone could guarantee its survival in difficult times.
Economic inequalities grew over time, which widened the gulf between the rich and the poor. The poverty line is the consequence of this phenomenon. The income differentials are increasing, resulting in the exacerbation of poverty. The leadership failed to take appropriate measures to reduce income inequalities. The point to discuss is that the older generation which was to act as guardian to safeguard the fundamental values governing the basis of Pakistan surrendered silently to the negative forces, which overpowered the whole of the nation.
